Gorillacell Module 047: 6-Axis Gyroscope

MEMS stands for Micro Electro Mechanical System. It is an input device used for measuring 3-dimensional motion, including acceleration, rotation, and magnetic orientation. The Gorillacell ESP32 Development Kit comes with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) Sensor module that features the MPU6050 chip. The MPU6050 integrates a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope capable of detecting motion, tilt, and angular velocity. Some IMU modules may also include a magnetometer for measuring the surrounding magnetic field, enabling full 9-axis motion sensing.

Gorillacell Module 046: RGB Color Sensor

RGB Color Sensor is an input device used to measure the intensity of light across the three primary colors — red, green, and blue. The Gorillacell ESP32 Development Kit comes with an RGB Color Sensor module driven by the TCS34725 chip. It operates by illuminating an object with white light, then analyzing the reflected light through three color filters (red, green, and blue). Each filtered color is detected by dedicated photodiodes, allowing accurate measurement of color intensity and identification of the object’s color.

Gorillacell Module 044: Fine Dust Sensor

The Fine Dust Sensor is an input device used to measure the air quality of the surrounding environment by detecting the concentration of dust and smoke particles in the air. The Gorillacell ESP32 Development Kit includes one Fine Dust Sensor module driven by the Sharp GP2Y10 sensor. It operates based on an optical detection principle, using an infrared (IR) LED and a photodiode arranged to measure the amount of light reflected by airborne particles. The intensity of the reflected light corresponds to the dust concentration in the air.

Gorillacell Module 043: Sound Sensor

The Sound Sensor is a device that detects sound waves and converts them into electrical signals. A common example of a sound sensor is the microphone, which acts as a transducer—converting sound vibrations in the air into analog electrical signals that can be processed by a microcontroller. The Gorillacell ESP32 Development Kit includes one Sound Sensor module for experimenting with sound detection, audio-based triggering, and noise level monitoring applications.

Gorillacell Module 042: Non-Contact Temperature Sensor

The MLX90614 is an infrared thermometer designed for non-contact temperature measurement. It can accurately measure the temperature of an object or person without requiring physical contact, making it ideal for applications such as thermal scanning, object temperature monitoring, and contactless safety systems. The Gorillacell ESP32 Development Kit includes one Non-Contact Temperature Sensor module driven by the MLX90614 chip for experimenting with infrared-based temperature detection projects.
